We recognise that the public sector equality duty has three aims and they are to:
 eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct under the Act
 advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
 foster good relations between people who have a shared characteristic and those who do not

The Leadership Team and Governors at Bankside review how well we achieve these aims with regard to the protected groups under the Equality Act (race, disability, gender, gender re-assignment, age, pregnancy and maternity, marital status, sexual orientation, religion and belief and sexual orientation).

Bankside is a very large 3FOE school situated in Harehills, Leeds, with 743 pupils on roll.
Nearly all pupils are from minority ethnic backgrounds (97.81%) and speak English as an additional language (91.41%). The vast majority of children are from Muslim homes. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals is 21.96%. The proportion of those identified with special educational needs is 18%, of which the great majority have LDD specific needs.
We have a large staff of 94 colleagues. Of these 85% are female; 15% are male; 51% from BME heritage and 3% are registered disabled.
